Alberto Roman – Senpai
Instructor Trainee
Alberto Roman – Senpai studied with Hanshi Everett Rodriguez and Sensei Steve Zalazowski, Sr. in Yasashii Do Martial Arts from 2002-2004. Under the primary instruction of Steve Zalazowski, Alberto joined the Demo Team and achieved the rank of Rokkyu-Saijo – Advanced Orange Belt in 2004. His goal was to make it to Green belt in this lineage of material, but life took him in other directions, and he discontinued training for several years.
Studying massage therapy, he earned his Massage Therapy degree and is licensed by the State of CA as a Massage Therapist, working locally in Monterey County.
In 2017, Alberto returned to training when Zalazowski -Sensei announced he was opening a new program of classes called PJMS™. PJMS™ is the successor lineage to Yasashii Do, affording Alberto the chance to achieve his goal from the early 2000’s. A loyal and dedicated student, Alberto accepts feedback from everyone around him and seeks to learn as much as he can about any given subject.
As Alberto continued to train, he discovered there were other lineages of material that had caught his interest. One of these is the Sword art taught by Mr. Zalazowski called Enshin Itto-Ryu Battojutsu.
Alberto is the first person at UMASDA to start at White Belt and be promoted to Green, Brown, and 1st Degree Black Belt level in this Art. After his Black Belt promotion, he was awarded the title of Senpai by Mr. Zalazowski, acknowledging his position as the senior student in this art in our facility.
Today he studies every art offered under the UMASDA, Inc. banner, recently beginning to study both American Martial Science™ and IKCA Kenpo, both under Mr. Fernando Avalos. As a student body member entering his 5th year of study with UMASDA, he has joined the Instructor Trainee corps and is learning to teach others quite successfully.
