UMASDA, Inc. FAQ
FAQ – How long will it take me to get a black belt?
That’s a question asked all the time. There is no short answer as we do not “give” out belts of any rank or color. Everything must be earned through hard work and study. We actively teach 4 styles under the UMASDA, Inc. banner and lease mat space to Seibukan Jujutsu of Salinas.
The 4 branches under the UMASDA Inc. banner vary in the time it takes to earn black belt level depending on the system. Based on the students that have graduated to the black belt level thus far: Our sword program has 3 levels to black belt, and most people achieve their black belt in that system in about 1.5-2 years. IKCA Kenpo has 7 levels to black belt, and most people average 3-4 years. AMS™ averages 4-5 years, as does PJMS™. It really comes down to how much work you put in and how much you study outside of class.
Seibukan Jujutsu has six levels to black belt for adult students, and the average is 2-3 years to earn your Seibukan Jujutsu black belt.
Who are we?

FAQ – Why study here?
Pick up any phone book (or “google it” for our younger audiences) – you can find places to learn martial arts. We are here to provide a unique and different approach to the process. We have programs in place found nowhere else designed to improve knowledge acquisition and retention. One of our mottos, “Serious Skills. Reasonable Time” embodies our focus.
The second motto is “Think, Know, Now” which speaks to thinking ahead to prevent the need for physicality, knowing what to do should that situation arise, and acting NOW – in the moment.
Our Code of Behavior is summarized with: Respect, Commitment, and Integrity.
What are your rates?
With no contract and ability to attend as many classes during the month as you like, our rates are some of the lowest in the county. Please call the school directly for more information.
FAQ – What makes UMASDA different?
Our focus is entirely on the student. We offer four different curriculum for study, each presenting its own blend of striking, grappling, or weaponry. Some students elect to study one of the paths of study – some study everything we offer. Each pathway of study creates new neurological development processes in your brain, and you will find many things cross over and enhance training across all 4 branches.
What do we do here?
We utilize state of the art technology with a progressive curriculum designed at every stage to build upon the previous level’s skill sets, principles, and concepts. This process enables the student to measure their progress against the goals for each course at any time interval they wish. (Weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.)
FAQ – I’m not in shape – can I still study?
Absolutely! Any physician will tell you that virtually any exercise is better than none. Granted – while being at a healthy weight and eating right will contribute a host of benefits and generally means people learn physical skills faster – it is by no means a requisite to learning! We do recommend you consult a physician before starting any athletic endeavor.
